2FA not accepting code

jorgen 9 months ago updated by Vlad R 9 months ago 5

I'm using FreeOTP+ (https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.liberty.android.freeotpplus/) as the 2fa code generator, it works with all sites that use Google Authenticator for 2fa but on my Filerun it doesn't work, says code is not good.

Is the implementation of 2fa different here or am I doing something wrong? I just check the box and when I log in i can add my site in the app and get a code...

(I use this one because it lets me back up my entries in a json file that I can save in a safe place)

Just tried the "FreeOTP+" from the Google play store and it works fine for me with FileRun. Make sure the time between your device and the FileRun hosting server is the same (to the second).

From their app info:
FreeOTP implements open standards. This means that no proprietary server-side component is necessary:
use any server-side component that implements these standards — for example FreeIPA, which uses TOTP.
Any standards-compliant implementation will work.
Currently, FreeOTP provides implementations of HOTP (RFC 4226) and TOTP (RFC 6238).

Thank you Vlad, my unraid base was off by 3 minutes 😣  (with NTP configured)

Afteri manually set the time everything works, as you said. Thanks

If you want to backup your 2FA manually yourself, Aegis Authenticator is the most commonly used. It's also extremely fast and quick to use. The interface easily beats the cloud competitors (Google etc).

Thank you for the tip Rudhra, I took a quick look and it looked promising.
