possible to get jpg files for photo-thumbs and previews?

originating from this topic https://feedback.filerun.com/communities/1/topics/1754-photo-preview-generating-cached-only-gets-400x400-resolution

But I figured it would probably be more clear to have this as a separate question.

Currently all thumbs and previews (of photos) can get pre-generated in png file format.

For photos this makes no sense whatsoever. Data loss for previews shouldn't be a problem imo. For other file types maybe it offers a good trade off between sharp/clear small images for thumbs. But for photos it easily gets the file size x10+ for the same result.

Related question; does the photo viewing still work if I convert  the thumb and preview PNG files to jpg?

The next format is going to be AVIF. Just waiting a little bit longer for Microsoft to bring Edge in line with the rest of the browsers.

OK, since I know for browsers it doesnt really matter what the extension of an image is it will show it properly if the extension isnt correct.

So with that in mind I tried to rename the jpg's (converted from FileRun's png) to have a png extension, in the hope filerun wouldn't matter when passing it through the pipe.

And from what I can see chrome network inspector reports the smaller file size for the PNG :-)

So this seems like a feasible workaround to get some sensible cached thumbs and preview files for photos. Still would love FileRun to see this is as a serious enough suggestion to handle photos differently from other cached thumbs (and previews).
