Editing Microsoft Office Documents

springcontacts 3 years ago updated by Vlad R 3 years ago 7

Hi,

Looking for a way to edit Microsoft office files inside file run. Is there a way for this to be done? I cannot get the web viewer to work.

Anyone know a way to get this to work? For example i am trying to view and change some things in an excel file. It seems unproductive to have it download then re-upload it to update.

Looking forward to responses.

You can edit XLSX files with Google Docs Editor, ONLYOFFICE and Zoho Editor (which requires an API key which is provided for free and never expires - perhaps you signed up for something else). The sample files in our demo also preview fine with Office Web Viewer.

@Anonymous: if you wish to edit files using your desktop Office files, without having to manually re-upload them, access the files via WebDAV instead (http://docs.filerun.com/webdav)

I try to keep clients appraised of inventory this way. I have been unable to edit an excel doc in filerun.

I would like to password protect it, then open and edit in file run. This way clients can see inventory but not do the editing themselves.

No joy yet.

I see you are wondering about the same thing. I wonder if anyone has a fix for this.

If there is no way to edit without a third party. How do i get the previewer to work? It just says error.

There are tons of options. It might be good to start by specifying a file type and the option you are trying and not working.

.xlsx a excel spreadsheet. I tried google docs but i do not like that the files are saved on the drive so i did not use it. I tried the office and web viewer but both could not display the file. I also tried zoho which works correctly but its a paid service after your free trial is over and it does not sync properly after editing the file.

The office plug in on settings-file-plugins needs to be enabled. You can view them, but to edit you must (sigh) save to your hard drive, then re-upload.

I have not found a way to actually unlock a file, edit, lock and save online in file run.
