Video Thumbnails via FFMPEG on simple linux hostings

andreaslukas 2 months ago • updated by Vlad R 1 month ago 2

you need ffmpeg installed on your linux server to get video thumbnails. My server is a simple 1&1 linux hosting (no managed or dedicated server). I cannot get it running without root access.

I am convinced that it must be possible to place static binaries for ffmpeg on the server storage and give the link to it in filerun preferences.

Can someone help with this - or is it simply not possible?

It's easy to try. Download the appropriate build version for your server: https://www.johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/ (probably x86_64). Extract and upload to your web server, point FileRun to "ffmpeg" and click "Test".
