Two "_temp-filerun.nextcloud-chunked-upload-xxxxxxxxx" folders created under My Files

philibuster 5 months ago updated 5 months ago 3

After uploading a batch of photos and videos with the Android Nextcloud client, suddenly two folders appeared under "My Files":

_temp-filerun.nextcloud-chunked-upload-25d002c103226811a3d3b7012a31f633
_temp-filerun.nextcloud-chunked-upload-c4d682c9643cd56ad603cb285e222d66

They both contain one file:

0000000000000000-0000000001776485 1.7Mb (in folder ending with 633)
0000000000000000-0000000001510842 1.4Mb (in folder ending with d66)

I tried deleting them but they spontaneously re-appear after a while.

I've read in the release notes of version 2020.11.21 that a bug related to this was fixed:

Fixed bug leaving empty upload temporary folders when Nextcloud apps are being used to upload larger files.

I am running version 2021.06.27.

What can I do to get rid of these folders?

Not a bug

These are temporary folders that FileRun clears out automatically after the upload is done. If you remove them while the upload is on going, you are interrupting the upload, and the app tries again.

"A while" is in this case 10 mins. before the folders re-appear after being deleted.

As the foldernames have "nextcloud" in them, I checked the Nextcloud app's settings on my Andoid phone. I tapped Settings (hamburger menu) > Uploads and there I noticed that 4 uploads failed and/or waited for restart. As these uploads had trashbin icons next to them, I deleted all 4 from the failed upload queue. That did not clear the "_temp-filerun." folders in FileRun. So I decided to delete the folders manually. Once deleted, they didnot return.
The retries for the 4 failing uploads in the Nextcloud Android app must have caused the "_temp-filerun." folders to spontaneously re-appear after manual removal in FileRun.
